Leg extension SWIFT
In 2021, Abuco’s welding specialists successfully completed a major project aboard the Jack-Up Barge drilling rig Swift 10. The project involved extending the four legs of the platform by 9 meters each. The leg extensions, made from S690 high strength steel, weighed 50 tons each. They had a diameter of 3.5 meters and a wall thickness of 60 millimeters.
First, these pieces were machined, including the application of weld edges and lifting eyes. Then the installation took place in Schiedam, where the Swift 10 was positioned alongside the quay of the Mammoet facility. Here we had to perform our work using a semi-automatic welding process at a great height. The holes for the platform’s lifting system were accurately cut in the leg extensions after welding on site. Overall, an exceptional project that was completed in five weeks to the satisfaction of our customer.
